USEFUL Information: The Difference Between "Save the Dates" "Invitations" and "Announcements"

Yes my friend, there is a difference between the three.  This is quite a common question when planning any event.  Let me help you:

SAVE THE DATES

Save the date cards are to notify the person(s) of the date of the envent, if they live far away they can save up to come or they can arrange travel, or time off work. You send these out to the people you definitely want to attend your event.  FYI, I think a save the date definitely ensures an invite to the event, think about it,  you just received a save the date, got the the time off and booked your flight and then got no invite that would just be wrong!!

This is a sample of a Save the Date for a Wedding, but Save the Dates are great for any event.
INVITATIONS vs ANNOUNCEMENTS

The difference between invitations and announcements might seem like a no-brainer but it can get a little confusing.

It seems as if most of us tend to use announcement products as invites.

Invitations are used when you are expecting the person to attend the event or party. These items commonly contain a response card. Just place a stamp and your address on the enclosed card in order to get your response.

This will help you plan your event. It does help immensely to know how many people will be in attendance.

This is an example of an Invitation.  The wording is key

So why would you need an announcement? This correspondence does not commonly require a response from the receiver. This is the major difference between invitations and announcements. You want others to know about your special event but you are not having a ceremony that they can attend or there's not enough space or finance to accommodate everyone.

Announcements are commonly reserved for graduations and births but some choose to use them for weddings as well. This is especially true if the wedding ceremony is very small, destination weddings and the couple can’t invite everyone that they want.
